The spirituality in the paintings of Paulina Bedrack
The spirituality in the paintings of Paulina Bedrack
Sandra Miranda Cirlot / Art Historian
A latent spirituality resides in the paintings of Paulina Bedrack. It is reflected through such varied objects as typewriters, diving helmets, floating dolls, or wheels rusted by the passage of time. And It is precisely the trace that time has left imprinted on these objects that contributes to creating a mysterious atmosphere in the almost white canvases.
These found elements that are found completely decontextualized from their usual place unleash a strange reaction in us, the viewers: they make us ponder the new functions of these objects. More precisely, they lead us to question the infinite possibilities possessed by all the elements that surround us in our daily life.
We are thus led, as we contemplate Paulina Bedrack's large canvases, to witness the multitude of meanings they generate in us.
Atemporality is another of the concepts inherent in her work. A careful observation of any of Paulina Bedrack's pictures transports us into a nonexistent time, an imaginary time, a time regulated by the individual rhythm we carry within us. And this is one of the things that is incredible and transporting about her art. Once inside, we ourselves decide what to confront and also, depending on our mood, what forms we are capable of distinguishing from other forms.
